New report reveals steady self drive market

The Caravan and Camping Industry Association of NSW (CCIA) is encouraged by the findings of the latest report released by the Sustainable Tourism Cooperative Research Centre (STCRC) which outlines a steady self-drive touring market.
The report, Characteristics of Touring Holiday-Makers in Australia, reveals that 70 percent of survey respondents have taken a self-drive touring holiday in the past five years and 99 percent were expecting to take one in the future.

CCIA, who stage the three highlight consumer caravan and camping events in NSW including the upcoming South Coast Caravan, Camping and Holiday Expo at Batemans Bay from 7 to 9 November 2008, are not surprised the industry continues to be a popular holiday choice for many Australians despite the global economic downturn.

“Now is the time to rediscover caravan and camping holidays where there is something for every budget – from cabins in holiday parks with all the comforts you could need, to caravan, motorhome and camping sites with quality park facilities,” said Mr Barry Baillie, CEO, CCIA.

The report also reveals that one quarter of respondents who chose to travel by car also towed a caravan, while motorhomes were used by 12 percent of travellers.
“The South Coast Expo is the ideal event for travellers to gear up just before the summer holidays and benefit from the sales and bargains on offer at the event,” added Mr Baillie.

“Events such as the South Coast Caravan, Camping and Holiday Expo present travellers with a wide range and choice from a luxury motorhome or caravan through to hiking or family tents.

”Fifty percent of those surveyed said their trips were usually between four and seven nights with 47 percent of respondents staying that caravan parks.

“Many holiday parks across New South Wales are situated in prime locations with water front views or a short walk from pristine beaches and shops. Many also offer activities and equipment for hire to entertain the entire family.”

With the summer holidays in sight, many keen camping families and tourers will be heading south for the pre-summer sales at the South Coast Caravan, Camping and Holiday Expo from 7 to 9 November 2008 at Mackay Park in Batemans Bay.
The South Coast Expo is open from 9am to 5pm daily, admission costs are $8 (Adults); $5 (Pensioners/Senior Card Holders); Children under 16 years are admitted FREE.
