Vic Widman Endorses Milford Lifesavers

The owner of Australia's largest 4WD driver training and tagalong tour business, Vic Widman, believes cargo barriers are real life savers. A witness to some frightening accidents and incidents over the years, Vic believes in taking safety seriously and strongly recommends the use of approved cargo barriers.

His own Toyota Landcruiser is fitted with an Australian-made Milford cargo barrier, as are all the 4WD vehicles used by his team of instructors.

"Every 4WD station wagon should have one fitted before it leaves the showroom," he maintains. "Accidents can happen anywhere, even on suburban streets. In certain accidents, cargo barriers have been of more benefit in saving people from death or injury than their seat belts - yet barriers are not even compulsory!"

Widman recommends four wheel drivers check the Milford website for documented reports of the Milford cargo barrier performing a lifesaving role in 4WD rollovers and accidents. He says the message about their worth is slowly getting through, and an increasing percentage of 4WD owners are using the cargo barriers.

He adds, "Safety in the passenger compartment is a priority, because of the heavy gear like fridges, recovery equipment, tools and camping items carried in the cargo area. Drivers must realise it is vital to fit an Australian Standards approved barrier such as the Milford product".

He points out that on trips when only two adults are travelling, it makes sense to fit the Milford cargo barrier behind the front seats, making the rear cargo area larger. "In some vehicles, it's simple to remove the rear seats altogether, giving more room for gear. Access via the side or rear doors makes the 4WD wagons a great choice for outback trips," he advised.
