The Best $400 I Have Ever Spent - A Letter to Milford Industries

About The Best $400 I Have Ever Spent - A Letter to Milford Industries

Dear Sir,

My Land Rover Discovery was involved in a serious rollover accident where a Milford Cargo Barrier was instrumental in saving our lives.

This disaster, which totally destroyed my Discovery, was in the middle of the outback, right in the centre of Australia, about 60 kms from Ayers Rock. Three of us had been driving through the Central Desert on an extensive 4WD camping tour around Australia when a tyre blew out and the car flipped over, completely, three times, completely wrecking it. Fortunately, we were all able to walk away relatively unscathed; Mark (my son) needed four stitches in his foot (as he had taken his boots off!) and Stuart (his friend from the UK) strained his neck, and we all had cuts and (very big) bruises.

The police from Yulara, NT, later said we were very lucky and only lived through it because we were all wearing seat belts, even in the back, which kept us in our seats in the vehicle. We were also carrying two spare jerricans of fuel and two of water, and an extra spare wheel, as well as a complete set of camping gear. These were only prevented coming forward into the passenger compartment by your cargo barrier - if any of the gear in the luggage compartment had come forward, we would have suffered serious, if not fatal, injuries - getting hit in the back of the neck by a flying jerrican of fuel does not sound too healthy...

In addition, as you can see from the enclosed photographs, your cargo barrier acted as a sort of internal roll bar which kept the roof up over the passenger compartment, giving us sufficient headroom, while remaining belted into our seats, to escape without serious injury. Also from the photos you will see that your cargo barrier remained intact throughout the accident, and was not deformed either from the pressure of the gear flying about in the rear compartment or by the force of the impact on the roof of the vehicle.

I think it is true to say that the combination of wearing our seat belts and your cargo barrier saved our lives in what could so easily have been a fatal accident - the best $400 I have ever spent. Thank you!

Yours sincerely,
David Salathiel
