NEW 2002 FORESTER
FORESTER: TRIM, TAUT AND TERRIFIC

A new shape, better safety and increased fuel efficiency are some of the features you can expect to see in the soon-to-be released Subaru Forester.

Subaru has caught the diet bug: the new-generation All-Wheel Drive Forester has piled on the features including better safety, new specifications and a powerful 2.5 litre engine while losing an average five kilograms on each model.

With a focus on greater driver and passenger safety, all Foresters are fitted with dual front air bags, ABS brakes and, for the first time, Electronic Brakeforce Distribution (EBD), which improves rear wheel braking in response to deceleration.

Crashworthiness has been improved, too, with ring-shaped cabin reinforcements absorbing collision energy. The front hydroform subframe now produces a 60 per cent stronger front subframe than previous models for better crash safety. All passengers-side airbags have two-stage inflators so that in low-medium speed collision, the bag is inflated in two stages to reduce risk of injury. In high-speed collisions, both inflators are activated simultaneously, providing maximum protection. With its 2.5 litre engine, this is the most powerful Forester yet. The 112 kilowatts of power increases the car's performance and engine efficiency while improving upon fuel consumption and efficiency.

Across the range, the interior size and quality of materials has improved for a more luxurious and practical finish. The range includes the X model, XS model and XS Option Pack. On top of the standard features of the X model, including a sportier look, airconditioning and AM/FM CD player, the XS comes with climate control, six-stack CD, 16-inch alloy wheels and front fog lights. The XS option pack features a larger side airbag fitted in the front seats for head and shoulder protection, leather interior and sunroof.

There are more options for adjusting the driver's seat height, the steering column height and sliding the driver's seat back. The overall exterior size has not changed, but new components have reduced weight and improved performance. Aluminium components are used for the bonnet, roof rails, and sunroof frames (XS option pack). Also, the combined weight of the rear suspension is reduced through a hollow stabiliser bar, lighter struts and mounts and fast reaction coil springs. The new Forester is even more attractive, comfortable, efficient, safe and powerful than previous models.

The new Forester range will be available from late June. Contact your local dealer for more information.
